On New Year’s Day 2025, the River Sankey burst its banks. The impact was severe; 327 properties were affected, with 60 Torus households forced to evacuate. In the face of this crisis, the Torus team responded with speed, professionalism and compassion.

 

Led by group housing director Paul Warburton, Torus colleagues from across the organisation sprang into action – many leaving their own families and holidays behind. They were among the first on the scene, working in challenging conditions and poor weather to prioritise residents’ safety. Torus’ Warrington offices were swiftly transformed into a triage centre, and group chief executive Steve Coffey helped transport families from their homes to the offices in a bus. What followed was a coordinated, round-the-clock effort.

 

The team worked tirelessly to support customers – helping with emergency accommodation, coordinating with emergency services, ensuring pet safety, and continuing to provide care and support to all those affected in the weeks that followed. Praised by Warrington Borough Council and the emergency services, Torus’ response showcased leadership, empathy and a commitment to community.
